The Garrett County Board of Education voted on January 12, 2021, to accept the Superintendent’s recommendation to remain in the “red model” in which students are learning virtually. Students will begin transitioning back to in-person learning when the Garrett County metrics are at 5% or less positivity rate and 15 or less per 100,000 for 14 consecutive days.

There have been 1,750 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Garrett County. Current metrics from the Garrett County Health Department are: 7-Day Positivity Percentage: 11.92%; 7-Day Case Rate Per 100,000: 30.03.

Students will be screened on entry into school in pre-kindergarten or kindergarten, and again in first grade, eighth grade, and new students, from outside the Garrett County School System. Students [Referrals] will be screened in the local school on a schedule arranged by the school and the School Health Services Staff. (Procedure from the Board of Education web site) If your child should show abnormal results, a letter of notification will be sent home with referral recommendations.

Referrals may be given from a teacher or parent. Please send a note or email Mrs. Knauff (jennifer.knauff@garrettcountyschools.org) with your childs name and grade if you would like him/her assessed.
