On March 1st, Southern Garrett High School FFA members traveled to Westminster, MD, to compete in state career development events. Many FFA members placed in the top 10 in their competitive areas. Madison Richard, who competed in the Milk Quality & Products Contest, placed 3rd individually. Emma Rush and Destiny Gank competed in the Meats Evaluation & Technology contest. Gank placed 1st and Rush placed 5th individually. The Meats Evaluation & Technology team placed 3rd in the state. The Agronomy team placed 2nd in the state. High placing members included: Nicholas Friend (3rd), Wesley Dixon (5th) and Trenton Evans (9th). The Agronomy team will move on to compete against other state teams in the Northeast in September at Springfield, Massachusetts. The Agricultural Mechanics team also competed. They placed second in the regional contest which qualified them to compete at the state contest where they placed 6th.
