Newspaper-The Acorn

The Acorn Student Newspaper, Ram Gazette Parent Newsletter, Senior Edition, The Ram Page Literary Magazine are all created by the Newspaper staff.


90th Anniversary Acorn Published

The Acorn, Southern High School's newspaper, celebrated it's 90th year in print with a special anniversary issue highlighting Acorn achievements, staff and advisors. Copies of the anniversary edition ofThe Acorn are available for free in the main office of the high school to any interested community members.



Senior Edition

Seniors can see Ms. Heather Savage to order their 2019 Senior Edition. The 60+ page, full color senior keepsake is full of photos and memories for only $20. The Senior Edition is created by The Acorn staff each year featuring senior bests, photos and articles featuring senior activities and senior wills. See Ms. Savage before and after school, during period 2 or RAMS period to order a 2019 Senior Edition today.
The 2018 Senior Edition will be available for pick up starting on Tuesday, August 21st. Extra copies are available for purchase. Please see Ms. Heather Savage.



Literary Magazine

Are you an aspiring artist? a secret poet? or a developing photographer? This is your chance to have your work recognized. The Acorn staff is looking for original student artwork, photography and writing for the upcoming school literary magazine to be published in the spring. Please see Mrs. Savage in room 1231 if you are interested or if you have any questions.



2010 Acorn named Marylander Award Winner

The 2010 newspaper staff has been recognized by the Maryland Scholastic Press Association. The newspaper entered the publications contest for 2010 and received the highest honor a newspaper could receive in their division. The paper also received a gold rating for the fifth year in a row.
