Congratulations to all four Covestro PRSEF students that competed at the Intel International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) last week in Phoenix.
The INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair was held on May 8 through May 13, 2016 in Phoenix, Arizona. The INTEL ISEF is the Olympics of student science competitions and brings together nearly 1,700 students from 75 nations to compete for scholarships, grants, internships, field trips, and the grand prize - a trip to attend the Nobel Prize Ceremonies in Stockholm, Sweden!
As a participant and regional finalist in the Covestro Pittsburgh Regional ISEF Competition, Ms. Alexandra (Alex) Jade Miller, daughter of Jeff and Maxine Miller, was one of four students from the Pittsburgh Regional to attend this year's International Fair. Pictured below is Alex (far right) with the three other Pittsburgh Regional Finalists.
Xiaxio Gao, 17, of Pittsburgh Allderdice, won Third Place Grand Award, $1,000, in the Category of Biomedical and Health Sciences for her project titled, “A Novel Mechanism of Chloroquine in Cancer Therapy.”
Natalia Hajlasz, 15, of Pittsburgh Allderdice, also competed at ISEF with a project titled, “Atomistic Simulation of Pathways for Mg2+-Water Dissociation with Rigorous Kinetics.”
Anya Satyawadi, 16, of Shady Side Academy, won Full tuition scholarship to Drexel University for four years for her project, “Popping Bubbles: Relationship between Cell Surface Area and Ultrasound Microbubble Mediated Toxicity.”
Alex Miller, 17, of North Garrett High School, won Fourth Place Grand Award, $500, in the Category of Engineering Mechanics for her project titled, “Get Up 'N' Go: Walker Stabilization Device,” and
$1,200 Special Award from the China Association for Science and Technology.
Again, congratulations to all four young women!
In addition to the awards that Alex received in the Pittsburgh Regional which were previously published, she has also been informed by David Volk of Bechtel Marine that she is the recipient of a 2016 Annual Woods Prize from the Pittsburgh Biophysical Research Group.
