Partnering with Community: Students Attend College Expo!

Last Updated on Feb 8, 2015 at 9:51am | Secondary Education

Thanks to the generous sponsorhip of Curt and Rita Miske (The Paintworks Store), Bill and Kathy Meagher (Funtime Water Sports Marina and Lakeside Creamery), and James and Shirley Bailey (GCC Technologies) nearly 40 high school students and 4 adult chaperones traveled to the Pittsburgh College Expo on February 5, 2015.

Students had the opportunity to visit over 500 college/university/trade/technical school representatives at one of the largest college expos in the region.  Free and open to the public, the college fairs allow students to not only interact with representatives from various institutions but NACAC also provides free seminars for parents, students, and educational professionals on topics such as college searches, financial aid, and other related topics.  GCPS hopes to make this an annual trip in addition to other local college expos at Allegany and Garrett Colleges.

Special thanks to GCPS, business/community partners, and chaperones LuAnn Watson, Denise Steinkirchner, Curt Miske, and Michelle Harman for making this experience available to Garrett County students!
