NHS & NMS Students Represent GCPS at Legislative Session

Annie Fratz (NHS, SMOB, GCASC President, NHS SGA President), Noah Aiken (NMS), and Logan Mason (NMS) traveled to Manchester Valley High school on Saturday, February 7, 2015 to represent Garrett County students in the annual MASC Legislative Session.
 
               
 
Over 300 students and advisors gathered at Manchester Valley High School to participate in workshops related to parliamentary procedure, leadership, voting procedures, and legislative issues in this annual state-wide meeting of student delegates from throughout the state of Maryland.  Students voted on MASC stances related to current bills of interest, revisions to the MASC platform document, and State Member on the Board of Education after hearing candidate speeches and participating in a question/answer session.  The day began at 9:00 a.m. with a general assembly and ended at 4:30 after the second general session.  
 
                        
The announcement of this year's two SMOB candidates to be presented to the Governor was made at the conclusion of the day's events.  The two finalists were Matthew Saxton from Century High school and Quinn Wandalowski from Smithsburg High School.
 
GCPS students teamed up with leaders from Allegany County to represent the western region in this important legislative meeting. Students were accompanied by advisors Kara Kennell (ACPS), Tammy Twigg (ACPS), and Michelle Harman (GCPS).
