Siblings Accept Tawes Award on Behalf of NHS

Alan Klotz, Western Region Fisheries Manager and Northern siblings, Jessica and Kyle Klotz traveled to Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis, MD on May 21, 2014 to accept the Tawes Award for a Clean Environment on behalf of Ms. Rebecca Kenyon-Sisler who is on maternity leave.  The recipients received a plaque, a Certificate of Appreciation from Senator Mikulski, and a $250 donation from the Maryland Petroleum Council. Northern High School plans to use the donation to continue to maintain the highly successful Cove Run project.
MD Comptroller Peter Franchot gave the opening speech. Maryland Department of the Environment Secretary Bob Summers, Maryland Department of Natural Resources Deputy Secretary Frank Dawson, and Drew Cobbs, Chairman of the Maryland Petroleum Council presented the award to Jessica and Kyle.  Jessica gave an acceptance speech on behalf of NGHS. MDE Secretary Summers spoke about all the good work the Garrett County School System is doing for the environment, and also mentioned the Crellin Elementary School Mine Reclamation Project.
