Junior Keith Chapman was chosen as the January Random Acts of Maturity (RAM) student of the month for displaying the character trait of respect at a wrestling match against Mount Ridge at home. Vice Principal Kurt Lear, among many other teachers, nominated  Chapman for the RAM student of the month after witnessing Chapman’s actions on the mat  when he lost during the finals. Southern fans felt the referee had missed a call which would have resulted in Chapman’s win.  “What I witnessed next brought tears to my eyes. As the opposing fans started cheering, Southern fans returned the gesture by booing. Keith, standing in the middle of the mat, signaled for all Ram fans to stop booing by fanning his hands to quiet the crowd. And they did immediately,” Lear  said. “You can not teach character like that and this young man exemplifies  the term respect.” Chapman received a $25 gift card to Uno’s Restaurant and Grill, the RAM student of the month sponsor.
