ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION
In accordance with Public School Law 4-111 (Advisory Committees) and a recognized need to work cooperatively with parents and the community as a whole for the betterment of students in the public schools, the Garrett County Public Schools establishes the Garrett County Public Schools Advisory Committee on Education.
The purpose of this committee, made up of students, parents, and community representatives throughout Garrett County, is to advise the Public Schools in order to facilitate its activities and programs in the public schools. More specifically, the advisory committee is to review changes to Board of Education goals and county-wide school goals, significant changes to curriculum or instructional methods, and changes to other policies, procedures, or programs that would significantly affect curriculum and instruction and render recommendations as appropriate. There are to be a minimum number of five meetings per year.
Membership on the committee will represent a three-year obligation, with half the initial members serving two full years and half the initial members serving a full three-year term. In order to encourage active participation, members must attend a minimum of three meetings per year, this membership requirement to be reviewed annually at the end of each school year. The chairperson shall be elected annually at the October meeting by the voting membership. The Superintendent of Schools will serve as an ex-officio member of the committee in a resource capacity.
