SEXUAL OFFENDERS

 

Board Policy

 

Purpose

  1. To define the terms under which individuals, charged with a sexual offense(s) (and pending court proceedings) or convicted of a sexual offense(s), are permitted access to Garrett County Public Schools System sponsored events, activities and services. 

  2. To comply with Article 11-722 of the Annotated Code of Maryland 

Policy Statement 

  1. All individuals charged with a sexual offense(s) against a minor (and pending court proceedings), as well as all individuals convicted of a sexual offense (s) against a minor, are prohibited from entering onto real property that is used for public elementary or secondary education. Such individuals are also denied access to all events, activities and services sponsored by the Garrett County Public Schools System.
  1. All individuals charged with a sexual offense(s) (and pending court proceedings), as well as all individuals convicted of a sexual offense (s) are prohibited from entering onto real property that is used for public elementary or secondary education. Such individuals are also denied access to all events, activities and services sponsored by the Garrett County Public Schools System.
  1. Exceptions to the exclusion in paragraph 1 and 2 may be made for an individual whose child is a public school student. If such individual desires to enter onto a particular school property, or participate in a particular school sponsored event, activity or service, he/she must obtain written permission, from the principal, to enter the school located on such property and/or participate in the particular school sponsored event, activity or service.
