Administrative Procedure

Educational research is a systematic and intensive means for obtaining and analyzing facts in order to better the delivery of educational services. In order to facilitate this endeavor it will be necessary for researchers, at times, to request cooperation of the Garrett County Public Schools. All requests to do research in the Garrett County Public Schools should be processed in the following fashion:

  1. For those research projects involving one school the request should be submitted to the principal of the school involved. If more than one school is involved in the project, the request should be submitted to the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction or the Assistant Superintendent for Administration, depending upon the nature of the project.

  1. All requests should be submitted utilizing the following format:

    A. Statement of research project.
    B. Population involved.
    C. Method of securing data.
    D. Type of analysis to be used.
    E. Implications of study.
    F. Period of time when research is to be conducted (inclusive dates and times).

  1. The principal or appropriate assistant superintendent, after reviewing the research project, will make a decision as to whether the project can be conducted in the Garrett County Public Schools.

  1. It is important that research proposals be designed in such a way as not to detract in any way from the professional responsibilities of the staff of the Garrett County Public Schools.
