Family Medical Leave Act

Board Policy

In compliance with the Family Medical Leave Act of 1993 the Garrett County Public Schools will recognize the following as reasons which qualify for such leave:

To be eligible for benefits under the Family Medical Leave Act of 1993 an employee must have been employed by the Garrett County Public Schools for at least one year and for at least 1,250 hours.

It is the policy of the Board to continue to provide benefits to which the employees are entitled during periods of absence for the qualifying leaves cited above. Paid leave, will be used in combination with unpaid leave when such is available to the employee in accordance with the appropriate negotiated agreements. Paid leave is to be used prior to unpaid leave when such accumulated leave is available.
