EVALUATION OF SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

Board Policy

In recognizing that evaluation plays an integral part in assessing the Superintendent's effectiveness, the Garrett County Public Schools shall conduct a formal evaluation of the Superintendent of Schools once every two years. This evaluation is to occur at the end of the first and third year of the Superintendent's four-year term. This evaluation shall be reasonably related to the position description of the Superintendent and the Public Schools's goals and/or objectives.

The following process will be followed in effecting this policy:

  1. During the period late May to early June Board members develop an independent evaluation of performance. Board members prepare a consensus evaluation for June Board meeting.
  2. A formal evaluation conference is conducted by the Board at June Board meeting.
  3. The Superintendent is given opportunity to respond to evaluation at July Board meeting. In addition, the Superintendent and Public Schools begin to jointly develop goals and/or objectives for the ensuing school year.
  4. At the August Board meeting the Board finalizes the evaluation in written form and adopts the goals and/or objectives for the ensuing school year.
  5. The Superintendent reports to the Board on progress toward the attainment of the goals and/or objectives at the November and February Board meetings.
