THE VISITATION AND EVALUATION OF NON-TENURED TEACHERS

Board Policy

The Garrett County Public Schools considers the visitations and evaluations of non-tenured teachers to be most important, and the act of granting tenure to a teacher to be paramount in providing quality education for Garrett County youth. To reinforce these convictions, the following guidelines are to be followed:

Visitations

  1. Teachers who have not achieved tenure status are to be visited periodically, at least two times per semester, by the appropriate administrators responsible for evaluation.
  2. Teachers who have not achieved tenure status are to be visited by more than one appropriate administrator responsible for evaluation each semester.
  3. Teachers who have not achieved tenure status are to be visited in accordance with Teacher Visitation Procedure 533.621.

Evaluations

  1. A formal evaluation including a conference shall be made at least once each semester for each non-tenured teacher.
  2. The evaluation shall be based on the conclusions and assessments reached by more than one administrator responsible for evaluation who has visited the non-tenured teacher.
  3. The evaluation of non-tenured teachers will be achieved in accordance with Teacher Evaluation Procedure 533.611.
