Work Year

Administrative Procedure

  1. The work year of all certificated and non-certificated staff is given in the operational calendar promulgated annually (See page 2).  Should a non-work day be used as a work day, 12-month employees affected will be granted one day annual leave.
  2. The work year for all ten and one-half month and eleven month staff begins August 1st of each year and ends June 30th of the next year.
  3. During this period of time, all ten and one-half and eleven month staff must work the teacher duty year plus the additional days needed to meet the required number of duty days listed for those staff in the operational calendar (see page 2).
  4. All ten and one-half month and eleven month staff will report these additional days worked to his/her immediate supervisor and/or the individual who is responsible for the payroll report which is sent to the Finance Office at the Garrett County Public Schools.
  5. The immediate supervisor and/or the individual responsible for the payroll report will record the ten and one-half month and eleven month staff's names and the additional days worked for the particular pay period on a separate sheet.
  6. The sheets of additional time worked by the ten and one-half month and eleven month staff will be kept on file at the work site to verify the number of additional duty days worked by each staff member. At the end of the work year a copy of this documentation is to be forwarded to the Personnel Office.
  7. Each ten and one-half month and eleven month staff member should keep a personal record of the dates and days worked in addition to the teacher duty days worked; so that he/she knows that he/she has worked the correct number of additional duty days required for his/her work year.

* Ending date will be revised depending on number of days schools are closed for inclement weather emergencies - date shown does include five snow days.
# Beginning and ending dates may be adjusted between 8-5 and 8-9 according to school needs; however, the duty year will not exceed 210 days.
@ Teacher duty year plus twenty days.
& Guidance Counselors work 10 days beyond the duty year.
^ Cafeteria assistants work the 180-day school calendar plus one day prior to 8-26 and one day after student term.
% Cafeteria managers and PICs work the 180-day school calendar plus four days prior to 8-26 and one day after school term
+ Beginning and ending dates may be adjusted between 8-5 and 8-9 according to school needs; however, the duty year will not exceed 207 days.
