It is the policy of the Garrett County Public Schools that the relationship between staff and students is to be of a professional nature. Therefore, an individual employed by the Public Schools of Garrett County may not date or have a sexual relationship with any student enrolled in the Garrett County School System.*

Violations of this standard will require disciplinary sanctions up to and including termination of employment and referral for investigation and possible prosecution.

A copy of this policy, along with policy 474.23 regarding child abuse, will be given to each employee at the time of employment.

* This policy does not prohibit personal relationships with students over the age of twenty-one (21) who may be attending Evening High School nor does it restrict the
   activities of part-time student employees, unless the employee has direct responsibility or supervision of the student. This policy does not apply to situations in which
   the employee and the student are married.
