Administrative Procedures

Under the laws of Maryland, students may seek guidance and counsel from teachers and counselors relative to their concerns about drugs. These persons who are counseling students are not required to divulge this confidence with the school administration. However, any professional staff member who discovers a student using abusive drugs or having them in his possession must report this to the school administration. The administration is then required to involve the legal authorities to determine whether the drug is abusive, with appropriate legal action to follow. Further procedures are stated in the Garrett County "Student's Rights, Responsibilities, and Discipline Handbook."
