 FIRST AID PROCEDURES

Administrative Procedures

  1. The principal or his/her designee in each school will be responsible for planning the delivery of first aid services.  The First Aid Procedures for Maryland Schools should be used as a guide for the delivery of service.

  2. Routine first aid for injury or illness does not require notification to the principal or his/her designee.
    Routine first aid is defined as first aid which requires immediate care, but is not life threatening.

  3. Teachers, assistants, other employed personnel, volunteers and students will notify the principal or his/her designee immediately if emergency first aid is needed.  Emergency first aid is defined as injury or illness that could be life threatening if immediate care is not provided.

            A.  With students needing emergency first aid, the principal or his/her designee will immediately contact the parents/guardians and inform them of the situation
                  and what actions are being taken to alleviate the situation.
            B.  School Nurse, nursing assistants, designated first aid provider or other designee will be informed and take appropriate action.
            C.  A copy of the Student Health Form is to be sent with students transported to the hospital (PS 35 Attached)

    4.  All routine and emergency first aid interventions are to be recorded using the Health Room Log.  (PS 42 Attached)
