Students living in Garrett County currently attending Allegany County Schools in grades 6-11 (2009-10 school year) will be permitted to continue attending Allegany County Schools through graduation. Students living in Garrett County who are not currently attending Allegany County Schools will no longer have the option to attend Allegany County Schools effective with the 2010-2011 school year. Siblings of students currently enrolled in Allegany County Schools, in grades 6-11 (2009-10 school year) will be permitted to enroll in Allegany County Schools after completing attendance at Rt. Forty Elementary School. This exception is consistent with the action when the Bloomington attendance area was closed. The feasibility of continued transportation to Allegany County Schools will be evaluated annually with no guarantee of transportation until all current students have graduated.

The only exception to this policy would be if a student lives in a remote area and the superintendent/designee determines that transportation to a Garrett County school is not feasible. These students will be permitted to attend Allegany County without transportation provided by Garrett County.

At the beginning of each school year, a list of Garrett County students eligible to attend Allegany County Schools will be prepared and forwarded to the Supervisor of Pupil Services for Allegany County. Garrett County students other than those on the approved list attending schools in Allegany County will not be eligible for tuition reimbursement by the Garrett County Public Schools.

MT RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL/ MT SAVAGE MIDDLE SCHOOL ATTENDANCE AREA

Although some roads have locally accepted names which are different from those showing on maps, the names on the maps at the Department of Pupil Services/Transportation Department, Garrett County Public Schools, are the ones officially used for decision making purposes.

From the Allegany-Garrett County line west along Route #40 to the Piney Run Road north on Route #546 to the Pennsylvania-Maryland State line. Area includes Sampson Rock Road, Finzel Road - Lowery Road - Pocahontas Road - Gravel Hill Road and Piney Run Road. Also students living on the Beall School Road and the Frostburg Road from the intersection of the Beall School Road south approximately 2.3 miles.
