Procedures for the Admission of Non-Public School Students to
Driver Education Programs

Administrative Procedures

     Eligible students from State approved non-public schools may be admitted to the driver education programs of the Garrett County public high schools on at space available basis. Only students who are 15, 16, or 17 years of age prior to the beginning of the course, and those who have never previously participated in a driver education class, may be enrolled.

     The principal of the non-public school must request enrollment of specific students at least one month in advance of the beginning of the driver education class. This request must be made in writing to the public high school principal and must include the full name and certified birth date of each student requesting enrollment.

     The public high school principal shall determine the number of spaces available, if any, for private school enrollees and may enroll them accordingly. All such students admitted to driver education classes must arrange their own transportation to and from class and will not be permitted to remain on public school property before and after class. Private school students must meet the same attendance and grade requirements as public school students in order for a driver education certificate to be awarded.
