Implementation and Utilization of Media Materials

Administrative Procedure

It is the practice of the Garrett County Public Schools to provide students with instructional materials that represent literary quality, appeal to students, excellence in format, authenticity of content, and suitability for a wide range in reading and viewing abilities represented on each level.

  1. It is the responsibility of each local school professional staff to review and implement the Selection of Media Materials Policy 347.31. Each principal should review this policy with his/her staff during the two-day professional meeting in late August of each school year.

  2. In order to provide for meaningful sequence and scope of materials in all content and all subject areas, principals, teachers and department heads should plan to assure that all media materials are utilized in the areas for which they were purchased. Practice of making materials directly available to students of a sensitive nature should be approved by the principal.

  3. Objectives set forth in Section III and criteria established in Section IV of Policy 347.31 should apply to all procurement methods: rental, purchase, obtaining on free loan, building a collection of resource materials for a particular unit or subject area, and local production of materials, by teachers, school staff, parents, and students.

  4. The school principal should consistently work with his/her staff periodically in evaluating the effectiveness and utilization of instructional materials as they relate to the teaching-learning situation.
