GCPS Announces Procedures for Inclement Weather

Last Updated on Feb 26, 2021 at 1:57pm | Public Information Office

It is likely that Garrett County will continue to be faced with snow, ice, sleet, or freezing rain during the months of March and April. Therefore, as students begin to return to in-person learning, GCPS would like to remind students, parents, and families about the announcements during inclement weather. The school system will follow procedures much like it has in the past. However, with advance notice, students can learn virtually in lieu of a snow day. GCPS will notify the public as soon as possible, but no later than 6:00 a.m. on a day that is impacted by inclement weather. Notification for virtual learning in lieu of a snow day will be provided one day prior to a virtual learning day.

Please be advised of the following information:

* Snow Day
  • All schools will be closed and there will be no virtual learning that day. Snow days will be made up at the end of the school year. Announcements for snow days will be made by 6:00 a.m. on the day of a snow day.

* 2 Hour Delay
  • All schools will operate on a two-hour delay schedule that day. This includes students learning in-person and those learning virtually. Announcements for snow delays will be made by 6:00 a.m. on the day of the delay. Inclement weather conditions will be reassessed by approximately 7:15 a.m.

* Virtual Learning Day
  • All students will be learning virtually that day. There will be no in-person learning on days designated as virtual. Announcements for virtual learning days will be made no later than 3:00 p.m. the day prior.
