United Way of Garrett County, in partnership with Walmart, sponsored the sixth annual “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive to benefit students attending the area schools in Garrett County on Friday, August 11, 2017. First United Bank and Clear Mountain Bank branches in Garrett County also participated as drop off sites for school supplies.
Stuff the Bus is a community-wide effort to collect school supplies for students in Garrett County. The school bus once again was donated for the day by Bertha and Kevin Green, who have supported the event from the beginning. Garrett County Public Schools’ staff members, along with United Way Executive Committee and Community Partners volunteered for the day. Supplies were distributed to all of the local schools in Garrett County and to first-generation college students at Garrett College. Monetary donations of over $1,300.00 were collected and given to Garrett County Public Schools to buy other needed materials.
