Superintendent of Schools, Ms. Barbara Baker and the Garrett County Board of Education are pleased to announce the appointment of an Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Administration for Garrett County Public Schools.
At the June 13, 2017 Board meeting, the Board of Education acted on the recommendation of Superintendent Baker and approved the appointment of Mrs. Karen K. DeVore as the Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Administration. The position will be replacing the vacant Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services position as well as the vacant Supervisor of Staff Development and Curriculum, effective July 1, 2017.
Mrs. DeVore has been employed by Garrett County Public Schools for the last eleven (11) years, serving as the principal at Northern Middle School for the past six (6) years, and Accident Elementary School for the prior five (5) years. Mrs. DeVore has taught every grade from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade and has coordinated programs through grade twelve. She received a Master’s Degree in Special Education at West Virginia University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision at Frostburg State University.
Mrs. DeVore resides in McHenry, MD with her husband Mike DeVore, a teacher at Northern Middle School. They have two sons, Colin and Noah. Colin lives in Oaxaca, Mexico with his wife Paloma and their daughter Mil a. Noah is a Jiu Jitsu instructor and resides in Pittsburgh, PA.
Mrs. Baker stated “We are excited to welcome Mrs. DeVore to her new position. She brings knowledge, experience, and a zest for learning that she can now promote throughout the school system”.
