On October 11, 2016, the Board of Education recognized student artists. Garrett County Public Schools purchased artwork from the students and displayed them in the central office. At the time, the artwork of Ian Brenneman, a senior at Northern High School, was not available because he and his art teacher, Mr. Jay Paxton, felt that the artwork should remain part of his required AP Portfolio.

On April 12, 2017, Garrett County Public Schools was able to purchase his artwork. Ms. Barbara Baker, Interim Superintendent of Schools, presented Ian with a check.
