The 25th Annual Maryland Teacher of the Year Awards Gala was held on the evening of Friday, October 9, 2015, at Martin's West in Woodlawn, Maryland. The reception and dinner recognized the state's top educators, and honored representatives from all 24 school systems in Maryland. Ryan Kaiser, from Baltimore City, was selected as Maryland’s top teacher from among seven finalists.
Garrett County Public Schools Teacher of the Year representative, Rebecca Kenyon-Sisler, teacher at Northern Garrett High School, was among those honored at the event. Rebecca has taught science in Garrett County for thirteen years. She teaches AP environmental science and biology along with various other science courses. She is her school's MD Green Schools coordinator and a new teacher mentor. As an Envirothon advisor, her teams have advanced to the state competition nine times in the past eleven years. Rebecca holds her Maryland Association of Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE) Environmental Education Professional Certification and National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification. She has collaborated with local organizations, government agencies, and landowners to initiate and maintain a student-centered brook trout restoration project.
