Garrett County Public Schools would like to inform students, parents and staff that sliced apples that were served in schools recently are part of a food recall due to a possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.  Recalled apples were served at schools with the exception of Swan Meadow, Northern High, Northern Middle and Southern High Schools.

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Please consult your doctor if you have any medical questions.

We have removed all sliced apple products from being served.

If you would like more information on Listeria monocytogenes, please go to the Garrett County Public Schools website, www.garrettcountyschools.org

If you have any questions, please contact Scott Germain, Food & Nutrition Services Supervisor, at 301-334-8917 or scott.germain@garrettcountyschools.org
