FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team 1629 competed at the FRC Championships held in St. Louis, April 22-25, 2015. During the event, Northern Garrett Junior, Alexandra Miller, was named one of ten “Dean’s List” recipients from among approximately 120 finalists from 60 FRC regionals.

The Dean’s List Award celebrates outstanding student leaders whose passion for and effectiveness in attaining FIRST ideals is exemplary.  In an effort to recognize the leadership and dedication of the FIRST most outstanding FRC students, the Kamen family sponsors this award for the selected top students. The award is named after FIRST founder and inventor, Dean Kamen.
According to FIRST, the students who earn FIRST Dean’s List Award will be great examples of student leaders who have led their teams and communities to increased awareness for FIRST and its mission all the while achieving personal technical expertise and accomplishment. It is the intention of FIRST that they will continue on, post-award, as great leaders of the ever growing FIRST student alumni community and as advocates of FIRST.

Celebrating its sixth year, the Dean’s List Award Ceremony featured: Karen Goudey, Senior Associate Director of Admissions, WPI; Jeremiah Quinlan, Dean of Undergraduate Admissions, Yale; Stu Schmill, Dean of Admissions, MIT; and Megan Smith, U.S. Chief Technology Officer and Assistant to the President, Office of Science and Technology Policy, White House.

Winners of the Dean’s List Award will receive a written recommendation from FIRST to the colleges or employers of their choice, and an invitation to attend an all-expense paid trip to the FIRST Dean’s List Award Winners Summit at FIRST Headquarters in Manchester, N.H., this summer. Since its introduction in 2010, the Kamen family has sponsored the Dean’s List Award with the hopes that the award winners will continue on as great leaders of the FIRST Alumni community, and as advocates for the FIRST experience.

FRC Students are nominated for the Dean’s List Award by their team mentors. Finalist and winners are selected as a result of a nomination statement submitted on their behalf by their team mentors and a personal interview conducted at the FRC regional in which the student was named as a Dean’s List Finalist.

At the Championship, GaCo placed 25th in the Carson Division. A total of 608 FRC teams competed at the event among eight divisions, including teams from the U.S., Canada, Israel, China, Turkey, Brazil, Australia, Mexico, and the Netherlands. GaCo double qualified to compete at the 2015 FRC Championship by winning the Greater Pittsburgh Regional during March 5-7 and being the recipient of the Chairman’s Award at the Chesapeake Regional earlier this month.
