National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American Association of School Counselors, will be celebrated in Garrett County Public Schools from February 2-6, 2015. School counselors implement comprehensive school counseling programs that assist all students and contribute to a safe and positive school environment. Counseling programs help students to explore and understand their abilities, strengths, interests and talents, to experience personal and social growth and to achieve academic success. Services include individual and group counseling, classroom instruction, character education, collaboration with school staff and agencies to meet student needs and assisting students and families in accessing community resources. These programs and services assist students to gain an understanding of their potential, and to develop the skills and goals needed to graduate career and college ready.
