Last Updated on Aug 25, 2014 at 4:46pm | Public Information Office

The first round of the BEST (Building Experiences for Successful Teaching) Program series was recently presented at the Garrett County Board of Education. The BEST program is designed to assist first-year teachers/educators, or those educators experienced in Maryland, but new to Garrett’s school system. Recent program sessions addressed College and Career Readiness Standards, Special Education, Standardized Assessments, and Teacher Evaluation. In addition, BEST assigns each new educator a mentor to provide instructional guidance, and professional direction. The 17 BEST program participants will continue to meet regularly throughout the 2014-15 school year. Dr. Janet Wilson, Superintendent of Schools, Barbara Baker, Assistant Superintendent of Schools, Tom Carr, BOE President, and Mike Pula, GCEA President, have already addressed the group.

The Garrett County Public School system issues a sincere “Welcome” to these talented individuals, as they embark on a new stage in their careers; educating the students of Garrett County.
