Grantsville Elementary School recently implemented a Summer Literacy Backpack Program for rising 1st and 2nd grade students. This program was funded through a Title 1 Approaching Target Grant. Grantsville had 19 students and their parents attend this summer program. Students participated in fun and engaging literacy activities with their parents. In addition, parents attended short workshops on guided reading and text dependent question strategies. Students left this program with over 20 new books to add to their home library, and parents left with reading strategies to help their children. As this school year begins, Grantville Elementary School’s goal continues to foster a love of reading with the students and their families!
