FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Team 7978, “iLEGO”, recently returned from competing in the Southern California North American Invitational in Carlsbad, California, among 74 other teams from around the world.  iLEGO earned the invitation to compete in California by winning the Champion’s Award at the Maryland State FLL Championship this past March among the 72 teams competing.  According to FIRST, the Champion’s Award is FLL’s most prestigious award that, “Celebrates the ultimate success of the FIRST mission in FLL Values.  It measures how the children inspire and motivate others about the excitement and wonders of science and technology, while demonstrating gracious professionalism.  The Champion’s Award is determined by giving equal weight to all four arenas and competition: technical design & programming, robot performance, project presentation, and teamwork- and additional consideration to the team demonstrating FLL values to all the judges.”

iLEGO received exemplary rubric scores and was incredibly proud to be competing with the caliber of teams that they met at the Northern American Invitational. The students had the opportunity to share excitement, ideas, and fellowship with students from all over the United States and several from other countries!  The research judges commented, “Great idea!  Really has the potential to help a lot of people.  Awesome presentation!”  For the robot design, the judges stated, “Well built, simple, yet effective mechanical design.  Good design with a solid strategy.”

The coaches, parents, and team members of iLEGO began a “Community Partner Campaign” to gain the support needed for the team to represent Garrett County and the state of Maryland at the North American Championship.  The team wants to thank everyone for making this campaign a success!
