Garrett County Public Schools is announcing a change to graduation plans for the class of 2021. In consultation with Garrett College, due to COVID restrictions and construction on campus for the new performing arts center, graduation will be moved to the Garrett County Fairgrounds for both the Northern and Southern commencement. Because of Governor Hogan's executive orders regarding COVID-19, all indoor and outdoor venues are currently restricted to 50% capacity. Having the graduations at the school campuses, regardless of indoor or outdoor, will significantly restrict how many friends and family each graduate will be able to invite. Having the ceremony at the fairgrounds will enable the largest crowd possible within the parameters of the governor's orders regardless of the weather. Graduation will still be held on Saturday, June 5 with Northern Garrett High School starting at 10:00 a.m. and Southern Garrett High School at 2:00 p.m. More information regarding the ceremonies will be released by each school in regard to the number of tickets available to students and the process for obtaining them. According to the governor's current orders, since this will be a "large ticketed event", masks will still be required to be worn. Graduation for the class of 2022 will return to Garrett College in the Community Aquatics Recreation Center (CARC). Garrett County Public Schools would like to thank both Garrett College for their ongoing support and the Garrett County Fair Board for allowing us to use their facility for this very special event for our senior students!
