At their special meeting on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, the Garrett County Board of Education voted to accept the Superintendent’s recommendation to return students to in-person learning. Hybrid learning is an educational model in which some students attend class in-person, while others join the class virtually from home. Educators teach remote and in-person students at the same time using tools like video conferencing hardware and software. Parents and families will continue to have the option to remain in the virtual learning model and therefore, the hybrid learning model will continue. The hybrid schedule of AA/BB days has been replaced with students returning in-person four days per week.

Parents and guardians continue to have the option to keep their child (ren) in a virtual learning environment in Garrett County Public Schools for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. Data will be collected at the school level between February 5th and February 12th to determine which students will continue virtually and which students will return to in-person. However, since all students will have the option for in-person learning by March 15, 2021, the expectations for all students relating to eligibility, attendance, and grading will change on that date. Those expectations are outlined in a document entitled Return to School Expectations, Spring 2021.
