The Garrett County Board of Education voted on November 10, 2020 to move students to a red, fully virtual learning model beginning Thursday, November 12, 2020, and continuing until at least Thursday, December 10, 2020. GCPS is also cancelling all in-person extra-curricular activities, athletic events, and practices effective immediately.

Dave Taylor, SGHS Head Wrestling Coach, Named MPSSAA Coach of the Year

Garrett County Public Schools is pleased to announce that Dave Taylor, Coach of the Southern Garrett High School Wrestling Team, has been named the MPSSAA Coach of the Year for the 2019-2020 school year. Mr. Taylor has served as the head coach for 19 years and during that time has amassed a record of 414 wins and 107 losses. During his tenure he has coached 21 individual state champions and has recorded 6 dual meet (team) state titles. During the 2018-2019 season, his team went undefeated and recorded a perfect 39-0 record. In 2019 he was inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame. This past year, under Taylor’s leadership, the SGHS team finished with a record of 33-9 and won their third straight state championship. Congratulations, Coach Taylor!
