The six videos that were recommended for approval to include with health curriculum at the January 14, 2020, Board of Education meeting are now available on the Garrett County Public Schools website. They can be found on the Pupil Services, Health Education, webpage:
Based on concerns received from the public that students could view other videos and content that may not be appropriate, these resources were moved to this location. Feedback regarding these videos can be sent to: by Friday, March 6, 2020. The Board will take action on the health materials at the March 10, 2020, Board of Education meeting.
The health materials for review include online video resources that will be used by health teachers, guidance counselors, and nurses. Fourth, fifth, and seventh grade lessons are taught gender separate, so some of the following videos are labeled for boys or girls. Six short videos were recommended by the Advisory Committee for use at specific grade levels. “Feeling Depressed, Happy, and Other Emotions” and “Oh No BO –Changing Bodies” (boys) are recommended for grades 4,5,6,7, & 8. “Menstruation, What to Expect” (girls) is recommended for grades 4 and 5. “All About Getting Your Period”(girls) and “Depression and Anxiety” is recommended for grades 6,7, and 8. “Pregnancy and Reproduction” is recommended for grade 8.
