Garrett County Public Schools Summer Technology Camps are open for registration for elementary aged school students. Two camps for primary students (grades 1-2) will be offered at the GEARS building in Accident, Maryland, on July 15-18, 2019 and then again at Yough Glades Elementary School on July 22-25, 2019. Three camps for upper elementary students (grades 3-4-5) are being offered at the GEARS Building in Accident during the week of July 8-11, 2019, Yough Glades Elementary School during the week of July 22-26, 2019, and at Grantsville Elementary School the week of August 5-9, 2019.
All camps meet during the day from 9:00 AM until noon and are open to all students, regardless of enrollment in the Garrett County Public School or residency in Garrett County. Tuition for the primary camp (grades 1-2) is $90.00 and the elementary (grades 3-4-5) camp is $110.00.
These camps have been offered for over twenty years. Students explore science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) concepts through building and programming LEGO machines to perform a variety of interesting and fun tasks. The 3-4-5 camps are an excellent opportunity for students to become familiar with and involved in Garrett County’s FIRST LEGO League (FLL) program in which students compete with LEGO robots, as well as research and create solutions to real world problems.
