Last Updated on Apr 5, 2019 at 2:23pm

Congratulations to Taylor Hummel and Kambria Kyle, sixth grade students at Northern Middle School; Nathan Jenkins, sixth grade student at Swan Meadow School; and Lily Corby, 4th grade student at Crellin; as the Maryland state finalists for the 2019 “Letters About Literature” contest!
The Maryland Center for the Book at Maryland Humanities, which is the state coordinator for the contest, and sponsored by the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress, received 1,420 entries from Maryland students this year. This contest not only promotes reading and writing, but also inspires creativity and encourages young people to be lifelong readers. Students are asked to read a book, poem, or speech and write to the author (living or dead) about how the book affected them personally.
  • Taylor Hummel: Warriors Series
  • Kambria Kyle: Wolf Hollow
  • Nathan Jenkins: Amee-nah: Zuni Boy Runs the Race of His Life
  • Lily Corby: “I Have a Dream”
Letters About Literature Maryland state finalists will be recognized at an awards ceremony on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Auditorium at Mercy High School in Baltimore. The ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m.
