Mr. James Maddy Named Principal at Northern Garrett High School

Barbara Baker, Superintendent of Schools, is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. James Maddy to the position of principal of Northern Garrett High School. Mr. Maddy will begin the principal position on July 1, 2018. Mr. Maddy holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and a Master of Education Degree in Administration and Supervision from Frostburg State University. He also has an Advanced Professional Certificate with Administrator I and II Endorsements.

Mr. Maddy has been the principal at Southern Garrett High School since July 2008. Before his principalship, he held the role of an Assistant Principal in the county for 7 years at Southern High and Northern High Schools.
Ms. Baker stated, "Mr. Maddy is a dedicated instructional leader. He has a wealth of experience and will bring many new ideas to Northern Garrett. He will be missed at Southern but will be welcomed by the Husky family!"
Mr. Maddy has many initiatives for Northern Garrett High School, including:
  • Expand opportunities for Dual Enrollment with Garrett College, as well as Frostburg State University
  • Expand partnership with the northern business community
  • Establish a SkillsUSA competitive team at Northern High School.
Mr. Paul Edwards, Director of Secondary Education, indicated, “Mr. Maddy demonstrated strong instructional leadership at Southern High School for the past ten years. I expect none other than the same for Northern High School. Mr. Maddy is familiar with the staff and community, therefore, a seamless transition into his new role should occur.”
