The Garrett County Board of Education recently approved the appointment of Ms. Katherine J. Catulle as the new Student Member of the Board of Education for the 2018-19 school year. Katherine will be a junior in the fall at Southern Garrett High School. She is an honors student and has been on the distinguished honor roll each semester in high school.
Katherine is an active member of the student council, a class officer, and a member of the Mock Trial team. She is also active in the Garrett County Association of Student Councils (GCASC), a member of the Garrett Coalition FRC robotics team, and affiliate of the Southern Lady Rams Soccer team.
Outside of the school setting, Katherine is active in soccer, piano, and dance.
Ms. Heather Savage, social studies teacher at Southern High School, stated, “Katie will complement the Board of Education and enhance the meetings with her valuable perspective. She has experience working with the populations of both high schools and understands the unique chore of balancing student needs and school system needs.”
Mr. James Maddy, Southern High School principal, said, “Her good judgment, positive outlook, and academic success ensure a logical and practical approach to serve as the Student Member of the Board of Education.”
Katherine will replace Sheyenne Tichnell who served as the Student Board Member for the past two years.Want more news?
