Sophomore Kristen Massey represented Southern Garrett High School and the State of Maryland at the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders in Boston, Massachusetts in June, 2017. Principal Jim Maddy presented Massey with her Award of Excellence for participating in the event. Massey had the opportunity to hear notable speakers who were Nobel Prize winners and young inventors in science and engineering. Massey was especially inspired by Jack Andraka, a 2012 Intel Science and Engineering Fair Grand Prize Winner who conducted breakthrough research in cancer detention. "My trip to Boston was worth it. I will never regret going because of the people I met," Massey said. "It gave me a look into what I want to do in the future."
