Northern Garrett High School Concert Band and Chorus
Mrs. Charlotte Sebold, Board member, recognized the Northern Garrett High School Concert Band and Chorus for their participation at the Presidential Inauguration Celebration and their achievements at the Worldstrides Onstage Inaugural Music Festival. The band and chorus had a special invitation to attend the 2017 Presidential Inauguration Celebration on Friday, January 20, 2017. On Saturday the students participated in the Worldstrides Onstage Inaugural Music Festival. These were performances which were open to the public and were adjudicated by outstanding collegiate and professional judges. The Concert Chorus received a rating of Silver/Excellent with a score of 83 and 1st place in their division. The Concert Band received a rating of Gold/Superior with a score of 86 and 1st place in its division. In addition, two of our students received specialty awards. At each Worldstrides Onstage Festival, students who stand out from all the others in performance of a solo portion of music are recognized with a "Maestro Award" for their outstanding musical contribution. There were 5 such awards presented at this festival, and one of them was presented to Robert W. Bittinger, a senior. In addition there is a specialty award named the "Ovation Award," which recognizes the contributions of students that go beyond their musical abilities, often dealing with the inspirational stories of their lives or circumstance in life. There is only one of these presented at each Worldstrides Festival, and the winner of this award was Brandon Pickrel, a 9th grader.
