Penny Proudfoot Appointed Director of Elementary Education

Mrs. Barbara Baker, Interim Superintendent of Garrett County Public Schools, announced that Ms. Penny Proudfoot has been appointed as the Director of Elementary Education for the school system.  
 
Ms. Proudfoot currently holds an Advanced Professional certification in elementary education and middle school and earned a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Frostburg State University in 2000.  She received a Bachelor of Arts degree at Fairmont State University in the area of Elementary/Special Education in 1981.  She also earned an additional 15 credit hours in Learning Disabilities from West Virginia University in 1983.
 
Ms. Proudfoot began her teaching career in West Virginia in 1981 as a learning disabilities teacher.  Ms. Proudfoot held the same role when she came to Garrett County in 1983, teaching at Southern High School and Loch Lynn Elementary School.  Ms. Proudfoot was a Diagnostic Prescriptive teacher at Dennett Road Elementary School before becoming a first grade teacher at the school in 1997.  She also served as a guidance counselor at Southern High School for ten years. She has had the role of Supervisor of Professional Development/Curriculum/Media at the Central Office since 2010.  Ms. Proudfoot also spent one year as part time assistant principal at Broad Ford Elementary School.
 
Ms. Proudfoot resides in the Oakland area and is a proud parent of two children.
