STEM Holiday Gift Extravaganza

Last Updated on Nov 2, 2016 at 8:21am |

An event for parents seeking creative STEM-based holiday gifts for their children will be held Tuesday, November 8th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at The Green Turtle Restaurant in McHenry, Maryland.  Garrett County’s FIRST High School Robotics team 1629, GaCo, will be on hand to demonstrate and give information about unique “open-ended” gifts that use Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) to “spark” creativity and innovation in youngsters, eight years old and up.

Many of these gift ideas have been used with success in Garrett County schools and are proven to engage students in STEM related topics. Some of the items featured will be Makey Makeys, Raspberry Pi Computers and LEGO WeDo 2.0 sets. Most of the projects demonstrated using these items will be controlled by Scratch - a free online computer programming environment used for ”coding” by Garrett County students.

Although no items will be on sale at this event, information will be shared as to where gift ideas can be purchased in time for the holiday gift-giving season.
