Maryland Farm to School Week

Garrett County Public Schools will once again participate in the Maryland Farm to School Week, slated September 19th – 23rd.  Various locally grown products will be served in the county’s cafeterias. The schools will be serving the following:
All week - Cheese curds from High Country Creamery
Tuesday – Sausage patties from Working H Meats and Maple Syrup from Steyer Brothers
Wednesday – Goat Cheese from FireFly Farms
Thursday – Lettuce and Tomatoes from Garrett Growers
Friday – Smoked pork for BBQ from Working H Meats  
The Homegrown School Lunch Week, an element of the Jane Lawton Farm to School Program, was created during the 2008 Session of the Maryland General Assembly (when SB 158 Farm-to-School Program - Activities and Promotional Events, sponsored by State Senator Jamie Raskin and State Delegate Sheila Hixson of Montgomery County) and was signed into law by Governor Martin O’Malley in May 2008.
