MABE SEEKING PUBLIC INPUT ON GCPS SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH

Last Updated on Mar 8, 2016 at 10:36am |

The Garrett County Board of Education is beginning the search for a new superintendent. Facilitators from the Maryland Association of Boards of Education (MABE) will host two public input sessions at Garrett College on Monday, March 21, 2016 in Room 205 of the Continuing Education Building. The input session for Garrett County Public School employees will begin at 4:30 p.m. and the input session for the community will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The Board, which will not be in attendance, will use the public comments to create a job description for a new superintendent. The job description will be posted by the first week in April 2016.

Those who would like to voice their ideas and concerns are asked to begin by considering the following questions:

       1. What are 2-3 things that make Garrett County a very special place to work, live and learn?
       2. What are 4-5 qualities/characteristics that you would like to see in your new superintendent?
       3. What are some challenges that a new superintendent will face in upcoming years?

Anyone unable to attend the public forum is encouraged to submit her/his comments in writing to Ms. Kitty Blumsack: kblumsack@mabe.org by March 25, 2016.

In late spring, selected representatives of stakeholders such as teachers, administrators, support staff, bus drivers, the business community, parents associations, service groups, etc. will be invited to interview the final candidates. The Board is relying on the community and Garrett County Public Schools employees to embrace this effort and join us in searching for the best candidate possible.
