Congratulations to SHS Student Ms. Sheyenne Tichnell, 2015 Carson Scholar!

Baltimore, MD-- The Carson Scholars Fund is pleased to announce that Southern Garrett HIgh School freshman Sheyenne Tichnell was named a 2015 Carson Scholar and will receive a $1,000 college scholarship award. 

Five hundred twenty-six (526) students representing all 50 states and Washington, D.C. have been named 2015 Carson Scholars. Each year the Fund recognizes a select group of high achieving students in grades 4 – 11 who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and humanitarian qualities. Students receive a $1,000 college scholarship award and the coveted honor of being named a Carson Scholar. In addition, 769 students have renewed their Carson Scholar status. These previous winners have maintained high academic standards and a strong commitment to their communities and are being recognized for their efforts.  

To celebrate their accomplishments, the Mid-Atlantic scholars will be honored at the 19th Annual Awards Banquet on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Martin’s West in Woodlawn, Maryland. WBFF News Anchor, Jennifer Gilbert will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Honored guests include: Dr. Peter Agre, Chemistry Nobel Laureate; Dr. Dolin Long,Distinguished Service Professor, Former Chairman of Neurosurgery, Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions; and Toby Orenstein, Founder and Artistic Director of Columbia Center for Theatrical Arts. World-renowned and retired pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson will deliver the keynote speech. The public is invited to be part of this inspirational day.
