The Garrett County Board of Education acknowledged several recognitions and activities at its recent Board meeting on January 13, 2015.
 
 
Oath of Office for Newly Elected Board Members
Mr. Timothy Miller, Clerk of the Circuit Court of Garrett County, administered  the Oath of Office to newly elected Board member Mrs. Monica Rinker, and re-elected Board members, Mr. Thomas Carr and Mr. Matthew Paugh.

Student Recognition for Christmas Card Artwork
Ms. Ella Rose Warnick, a seventh grade student at Northern Middle School, was the designer of the Christmas card which was sent from the Board of Education and the Superintendent to the employees, each Maryland school superintendent, and various county and state agencies in December 2014.  Ms. Jennifer Wampler, was her art teacher at Northern Middle School.

Student Recycled Art Work Recognitions
Garrett County Solid Waste & Recycling and Co-Host Garrett County Arts Council celebrated America Recycles Day at the State “Rethink Recycling” Sculpture Competition on November 14, 2014, in Baltimore, Maryland. Southern High School’s Molly Browning won 1st place in “Creativity/Uniqueness” for her gorilla, titled “Tribute to the King of the Jungle.” Maura McCann won 2nd place for her sculpture, titled “Maryland’s Beauty”, in the “Best Use of Materials” category.
