Northern Middle School was recently named recipient of the 2013-14 Maryland Center for Character Education (MCCE) School of the Year award.  The award recognizes the school for its efforts and accomplishments in helping students develop into their full potential as citizens and adults.

Dr. Phil Lauver, Supervisor of Pupil Services stated, “Northern Middle does tremendous work in integrating Character Education, PBIS and social-emotional learning to encourage positive discipline and attendance, so that students can excel with academics, health, physical education and all areas of the arts and related skills, as well as personal, social and career development.”

MCCE is a non-profit, non-partisan organization whose primary purpose is to encourage character education as a part of a full approach to education. Annually, MCCE hosts a recognition luncheon for schools in Maryland with outstanding character education programs. Northern Middle School will receive the award at the luncheon on Thursday, October 9, 2014, at Stevenson University, Owings Mills Campus Rockland Center.   The school will receive a specially designed “School of the Year” banner which will be displayed along with a certificate of recognition from the Maryland Center for Character Education.
