Student Council Updates

Last Updated on Nov 6, 2013 at 10:23am

We have been very busy with many projects this fall!  Thanks to everyone who helped to make Red Ribbon Week a success! The Kids Helping Kids Food Drive will be ending this Friday.  We can’t thank you enough for all the donations.  I believe 6th grade is in the lead for the collection numbers at this point.
There will be a meeting GCASC meeting at Perkins this Saturday, November 9th at 9 AM.  I’d like to thank everyone has gone to represent and share information from NMS.
We have been approved for the Leadership Conference on November 23rd.  Ms. Harman will be chaperoning NMS students because I will be out of town.  This will be a first come, first serve sign up as seats may be limited.  Please email and let me know if your son/daughter is interested. I have paperwork on my desk for anyone who would like to attend.  The cost is $20 for the day (which includes lunch and registration) plus money for snacks and dinner.  Please let me know if money is an issue.  I don’t want anyone to ever miss an opportunity due to funds.
Please let me know if you will be able to chaperone the Snowball Dance on Friday, December 6th from 5:30-7:00 PM.
Veteran’s Day –Monday, Nov. 11th @ 2:20 PM
I am thrilled and a little overwhelmed with our response for the Veteran’s Day celebration this year.  We have received RSVP’s from 40+ families.  With students this will mean we are feeding 100 people.  I’ve ordered a large cake and several fruit trays.  Each student council member has been assigned a food.  I’d like to have as many donations as possible sent in by this Friday.  This way I’ll know what I need to purchase over the weekend.  If you’re baking cookies or brownies, please just bring them to school Mondaymorning.   I’ve asked every member to “dress up” for the occasion. Thanks for helping to make this project a success!
Festival of Trees
This year the Student Council has decided to donate a decorated tree to the Festival Trees.  The proceeds from the auctioned trees will be donated to the Dove Center. We are very thankful to Taylor Sines of Woodlake Tree Farm for donating a fresh cut tree to our project.
Our tree’s theme is Garrett County.  We need ornaments with Garrett County animals (farm or wild), memories, activities (hunting, biking, fishing, hiking, gardening, camping, skiing, swimming, etc.), and places (the railroad station, state parks, Casselman, etc.).  Garrett County has everything, so we should be able to make almost any ornament work.
Please send us an ornament for our tree!  These ornaments can be purchased or handmade.  It will be nice to have a variety of each.  Please send all donations by Tuesday, November 19th.
Every student who donates an ornament to the tree will be invited to an ice-cream party hosted by Student Council.
The Festival of Trees ( is hosted at the Garrett County Fairgrounds on Friday, November 29th-30th.  This is an excellent opportunity for us to give something back to the community.  We’re very excited about this project.
Thanks for your participation!
